Meet the Horses

At Quantock Trekking we are able to match most riders to a horse that is suitable for their ability. We have quiet ponies, buzzy ponies, irish sport horses, lightweight cobs, heavy cobs, and even a shire horse, so we are able to cater for heavier riders. Have a chat with us on the phone regarding weight limits.
Albert
Albert
Albert
Albert has been ridden by Dave most days since he came to Quantock trekking in December 2011. He is a fantastic lead horse and an absolute gentle giant.
He is naturally very calm and walks out well, taking no notice of cars, lorries, mountain bikes etc. Although Albert is very well built and can carry the heaviest of rides, he's a real softy with a huge appetite – always first for his feed! Albert is top of the pecking order and controls the herd. We think he has stopped growing, but will he make 18hh??

Annie
Annie
Annie
When Annie arrived to us she was overweight, shaggy and very uncared for. Which is where her nicknames "Pumba" and "Piggy" have come from. She is now the total opposite. The Quantock hills soon got her in shape.
Annie is full of character, and is a forward going ride so is suited for a more experienced rider. She is a very sweet mare that loves a lot of fuss and attention, we have all got a soft spot for "Piggy".

Likes: Haylage - we have never seen a horse eat a hay net so fast!
Beauty

Beauty
For the experienced rider she will walk out beautifully but is very happy to be a plod for the less experienced rider. She is a weight carrier and is fantastic in traffic, and proven to be very safe. Perfect for children and nervous riders.

Bonnie
Bonnie
Bonnie
Bonnie, her name says it all. At the Quantock show in August she was a real picture. Children, adults, jumping, showing Bonnie can do it all. The most ridden and popular horse in the yard.
We used Bonnie for pony rides at Bagborough Fete so all the tots in the village have had chance to ride her.

Buzz
Buzz is nicknamed "Mr Handsome" and "Mr Smooth". The names are very true, he is so gorgeous especially with his long mane.

Flossy
Flossy
Flossy
We broke her in ourselves, and she is now being ridden regularly. Her progress has been fantastic, we have now managed to have her shod which is great because at the start she was very upset with her legs or hoofs being touched.
All she needed was lots of love and time, she is a super horse with lots of personality.
Flossy has wonderful movements, and is a quite forward going so would be more suited to an experienced rider.

Gerty
Gerty
Gerty
Gerty also known as "Princess Fiona" has grown on us all and is now a real favourite in the yard. She has calmed down, relaxed and is now perfect for beginners, particularly for heavier novices.
When going uphill she has very noisy breathing, but it is not a problem for her. Her wind problem at the rear end is still proving to be a conversation stopper.

Harry
Harry
Harry
A lot of our regular customers ask to ride him. He is very good in traffic and very steady. Experienced riders enjoy his paces. He can carry weight and has recently spent a lot of time being schooled in the arena which has benefited both horse and rider.
Being the most handsome in the yard takes its toll on Harry. When in the stable he uses his time wisely to rest and recuperate, occasionally popping his head around into the tack room to keep updated on the day.

Maggie
Maggie
Maggie
She has a lovely temperament and loves to be groomed. We have just started with Mags as she is unbroken, she is learning everything very fast. She is comfortable having her saddle and bridle on, and we have just started riding her out.
Maggie has taken this all in her stride and doesn't seem to be phased by anything. So fingers crossed it won't be long until she joins our treks. She is a very big strong horse so is the perfect weight carrier.
We also have Maggie's foal "jack junior" he is currently 8 months old and should make a very big strong horse. He is in the field with our other little boys Eric and Alfie.

Magic
After spending a lot of time with Magic, we broke her in and rode her on ourselves, and she was soon out on our treks. However, we noticed even with all the exercise Magic's tummy grew bigger and bigger! Yep to our surprise she was pregnant!
She gave birth to a gorgeous boy called Eric in August 2014. She really is a great mum, and we love watching them play.
Magic is a very quiet and gentle ride, perfect for beginners or a nervous rider. She was brought back into work in Spring 2015 after her maternity leave.

Oscar
Oscar is a real favourite with the girls that help in the yard and with those that have had the pleasure of riding him!
He is perfect for the steep hills of the Quantocks because he generates so much power in his back end. He hunted last year and was there all day right until the end still looking for more.
Very responsive and forward going, brilliant in traffic, a push button ride, but not for the complete beginner.
Out in the field Oscar is best friends with Harry and Hector, the three of them can often be seen 'plotting' together.

He is a lovely natured pony and loves attention. He is a really easy ride and has lovely paces because he's been well-schooled, so he's ideal for younger riders. He found stable life difficult at first but has now adapted well.
